Conway The Machine - "From King to A GOD" Album REVIEW

RIP to DJ SHAY off the back. The legendary producer/DJ recently passed away from his fight with the deadly Covid-19. It's great to hear his voice on a couple of tracks on Conway's full length project below. He will be missed. And shout out to my Aunt Gladys who also passed from Covid. A moment of silence for everybody's loved one's. Also, a moment of silence for all the 9/11 victims.

NOW, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

Review:

We all know 2020 has been bad news for the world. I just know you have to find something to distract you at times and music does it for me. And Conway has my full attention like a Sargent in the military. And I'm pretty sure he has more people's attention than you think if your a true Hip-Hop fan.

For most of his career, he's been teasing us with projects that are usually under 30 minutes. This project is close to 50 minutes and it's his first legit Album. People have been wondering if Mr. Machine could hold his own on a full base Album. Let's discuss.

From King
He had to start off with a Daringer track. Great intro to the album. Beat sounded like the beginning of a fight scene of a fighting flick. And you can tell off the bars Conway spits, he's getting us ready for this album. You know how prior to getting on the roller coaster, they tell you to strap in for your safety? This track straps you in with not only your seat belt, but the seat next to you as well.

Fear Of God
This track sounds like we just entered the Haunted House at the same amusement park from the first track. Coming off Nas's album, producer Hit Boy blesses Conway with a sinister echo type sound making you look over your shoulder if fear. Fear from a king to a god. Dej Loaf tackles the chorus, while Conway spits clever lines like, "...I mean, West owned the land, but I did the construction."

Lemon
Daringer and Beat Butcher join production credit on this grimy dark beat. This beat continues to take you on a dark path, similar to the previous tracks. And with the legendary Method Man rapping like it's '92, we are in trouble. Both emcee's blessed this track like they were baptizing my ear drums. So refreshing to hear Method on a Daringer and Beat Butcher beat. It just makes you excited for the NEW Method Man and Havoc joint coming soon.

Dough & Damani
This track takes us on another ride with additional seat belts on. One track, two songs. Alchemist starts the track off with a lighter mood, while Conway spits, "I told the bro, wear your gloves and cover your face with mask/Not for Covid-19, shit, you got H to bag." Then we get a great transition with a quote from the Movie "Juice." This Daringer beat get's back to the dark without a flashlight. And Conway transitions to the Tupac character Bishop through his lyrics. Great concept with two of the hottest producers in the game currently.

Juvenile Hell
This beat reminds you of Mobb Deeps album Juvenile Hell album and the days of their classic album, The Infamous. With Havoc on the beat and chorus, I was ready to hear Prodigy spit. RIP Prodigy. But, we have the Prodigy's protege, Flee Lord filling in and sounding great with Havoc. I bet Flee and Havoc got an album coming out soon. And then Lloyd Banks comes out of retirement again and kills it. Banks is still on my Mount Rushmore of rappers. The punchline KING sounds like he's ready for another strong come back. This is my favorite joint. Again, I cannot wait for Meth X Havoc.

Words From Shay (Interlude)
RIP DJ Shay again. On this interlude, Shay expresses his feelings about Conway and warns the world about Conway's passion of Hip-Hop and his elevation of bars, which he's been displaying on various projects.

Front Lines
We get back to the under the earth beats with Signalflow Music and Beat Butcha. The first verse Mr. Machine is braggadocios and letting the world know, he got money without the fame. The second verse is my favorite, where he addresses the most famous colorful rat along with crooked police. And he ends the song with a reporter reporting how people are mad and taking it to the streets to demand justice. This song elevates Conway on other topics people are not familiar with him speaking on. Great record. The chorus is catchy.

Anza
Conway steps up the tempo with producer Murda Beatz and gets accompanied by NEW Griselda member Armani Caesar. After Conway was shot and started rapping again, it was challenging for him to rap on faster beats. That's why Daringer and DJ Shay slowed down the tracks for him to give him his confidence back to rap. Now that his jaw is more flexible, it's over for these MC's. This gives Conway more diversity when it comes to music now. Shout out to Armani Caesar for blessing the track. I'm looking forward to hearing more from the Queen of Griselda.

Seen Everything But Jesus
Beat Butcha throws a track to Conway and has him in a singing mood. This song is not one of my favorites, but it gives me hope that Conway is on his way to being more creative and taking chances. Freddie Gibbs joins his fellow brethren and it actually feels more like a Gibbs beat.

Words from Shay (Interlude 2)
DJ Shay fruition is coming true. And prior to his untimely passing, I'm pretty sure Shay was proud of the Griselda Family.

Spurs 3
Beat Butcha literally "CHIMES" in with this beat. It sounds like he used those chimes that you put on your door to know someone is coming in and out of the house. This posse cut could of been from when the "Not Group" was working on "WWCD". It sounds like it was conducted around the same time. Benny The Butcher outshines the team with bars like, "A bag of heaters in the back of Bimmers (Skrrt)/Cocaine, thick gold chain like DMC in them black Adidas/I remember when it was dirt cheap (Uh-huh)/I don't know what you gon' name this, but it's soundin' like "Spurs 3".

Forever Droppin Tears
Conway is great with beat selection. This time around, he drums up legendary producers Da Rockwilder and Erick Sermon (Green Eye Bandit). And yes, these legendary producers are still out hear providing sound that will make you fall in love with them again. Rapper/Hook Master El Camino checks in on the chorus making this song complete while Conway sheds tears about two of his closets friends, Damani and DJ Shay. This is a heart wrenching song for the real gangstas to vibe too. He also shouts out his other lost of Machine Gun. He's dropping tears for his brothers. The song ends with DJ Shay speaking on the team and how they love and respect the game and have originality. So stop comparing Griselda with any rappers.

Jesus Khrysis
Producer Khrysis brings back the album back to it's grimy nature while Conway is showing and proving he's a top contender for the Heavy Weight Belt. This song he really goes in and it stands out lyrically. I'm giving him a title bout on this one. It's a bit short, but tart (sweet) though, but one that hits hard like Tyson.

Nothin Less
And you thought DJ Premiere wasn't going to appear. WRONG! With all these great producers, Premo just added the cherry to the Sundae. Conway bless us with that smack talk we are use to. This was just a great record and outro to the Album.

“Typically, when I create an album, I tend to focus on being the best rapper and having the best bars.  With From King To A GOD, I wanted to show growth; how much I’ve grown as an artist and how much I’ve grown as a man” stated Conway.  “I wanted to showcase versatility and show people that I’m not a one trick pony. I feel like this album is not only arguably one of my best albums ever, but it is also the perfect appetizer to get my fans ready for my Shady Records debut God Don’t Make Mistakes.” - Conway The Maching (The Source)

I've couldn't of summed up the review any better Conway. Let's get to the rating.

My Grade For Mixtape (Rate: 1 Lowest and 5 Highest)
Beats: 4.2
Lyrical Content: 4.5
Album Structure/Theme: 5.0

G Fam Black VS Ceverely Yours Dear G Fam Black, Thank you once again for participating in this interview. I know you don’t do many press features, and this is a wonderful chance for your fans to learn a bit about you while still keeping some of that mystery. I truly appreciate it. Peace, G. I’m grateful for this opportunity! - G Fam Black Questions & Answers: 1. Are you originally from Brockton Massachusetts? And where are the best places to eat? Absolutely, I was born and raised in Brockton. There are plenty of great food spots here. For the best chicken, I’d recommend “Yas Chicken” and “Birdies Hot Chicken”, which are both fantastic. For breakfast, I have to mention “Alexander's Family Restaurant”. They’ve been around since I was a kid, and their omelets are incredible. For pizza, “Cape Cod Cafe Pizza” is the way to go—it's the best bar pizza in the world, a true South Shore Massachusetts specialty. A lot of towns near Brockton brag about having the best bar pizza, but th...
