Westside Gunn - "WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE" Album REVIEW

Westside Gunn is back with another project and this is the follow up for "FlyGod Is An Awsome God 2" and "FlyGod Is An Awesome God". This project is actually on a major though. Shady Records and Interscope Records are carrying the weight and by the look of it, it's a couple of pounds.

I'll be reviewing mostly on Friday's because most albums come out that day. Depending on how much music comes out, I'll be posting when I can within the weekend.

My daughter and I also have clothing line. Please click below to support. Thanks in advance. Now, BACK to our regularly scheduled REVIEW.

Review:

Ladies and gentleman, meet the masters of Griselda. Who remembers the BEST 1996 nWo wrestling trio? It single handedly reinvented Hulk Hogan. Along with Hogan, hooligans Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, this trio turned WCW upside down. Well, I start off with wrestling references, because Griselda (Westside, Conway and Benny) remind me of the trio and Westside LOVES wrestling as well. They are the UNIT that is stirring up Hip-Hop.

Even though this is NOT a group album, the stand out cuts involve the camp along with other features. The album seems like a Royal Rumble of other MC's on the mic looking to take the belt. Let's break down each track and clear the ring.

Sunshine Intro
When I hear AA Rashid, he gives me Ol' Dirty Bastard vibes. This intro is just explaining the title, "Who Made The Sunshine". And this beat was created by Beat Butcha & Daringer. Actually 7 out 11 tracks were. Leads be to believe, this album was supposed to be either a 7 track EP with added on production. If you know, tell me in the comments.

The Butcher and The Blade
If this title sounds familiar, you maybe thinking about Benny's intro on "The Plugs I Met" when it talks about The Wolf and The Blade. The Griselda camp is good at making you remember their past works. I know I went back to listen to "The Plugs I Met". This is a posse cut and starts off the Album with some mean piano riffs. Not my favorite joint, but it's solid with Conway and Benny's verse.

Ishkabibble's
Y'all going to have to help me pronouncing this title. I've been sounding it out since the album came out. LOL! Beat Butcha and Daringer have a unique sound and you usually can tell who's on the track. Those creepy piano riffs are back. This track has legendary MC Black Thought rapping like he's Westside's twin. Even though his verse is still more lyrical, it seems like Thought to a different approach on this beat.

All Praises
The Alchemist praises this track bringing the voices of Boldy James and Jadakiss to a higher platform. Westside is great with the chorus and it seems like he's going in on the singing on this track. Will we see a R&B album from Westside?

Big Basha's
Some of these titles have to be explained. Again, if someone knows what this one means, hit me up. Beat Butcha and Daringer are back with the door chimes and dark type beat. The good news is, the beats cater to Westsides voice. And I believe all rappers have to respect their voices as instruments and find those producers that match.

Liz Loves Luger
This title I understand. Armani Caesar's album was called, "The Liz". This time, Ms. Caesar blesses the track with her R&B voice while Westside get's in his nasty bag. The Alchemist on this track.

Ocean Prime
If your wondering who Busta Rhymes and Slick Rick are kiddies, you have some Hip-Hop Homework to do. Beat Butcha & Daringer back with a dark and simple beat, while the MC's talk that talk. Now, people are criticizing Busta for his drug bars, but I'm not. We all know Busta usually doesn't rhyme about selling drugs, but who knows what Busta did back in the days. And Slick Rick could of been left off this track. I believe he shined on "Good Night", not this joint.

Lessie
The "First Lady" of Grieselda Keisha Plum returns with some deep poetry to balance Westside Gunn's high energy voice. I'm expecting her album to be FIRE. I'm a huge fan.

Frank Murphy
This track is irritating to the ear drums. Not sure if the producers, Conductor Williams and Obscure 8 did this on purpose to match the sound of Daringer, but it didn't work for me. The only reason I listen to it is because of the heavy weight MCS on the track. The track seems like it's hypnotizing the world. Shout out to Stove God Cooks, Flee Lord, Elcamino, Smoke DZA and Estee Nack. Someone needs to remix this so I can enjoy the bars.

Good Night
This is the track that "The Ruler" murdered. Slick Rick is still one of the best story tellers and bar smiths. This duet actually seems right. I wouldn't mind hearing just Westside and Mr. Rick on about 7 joints. Why not? Do it for Hip-Hop.

98 Sabres
This beat has to be my favorite on the album. Just Blaze may have do the next Griselda Album. Again, some beats just elevate the MC's and Blaze brought the heat on this one. It does seem like Just Blaze is catering to the Griselda sound though. If he didn't scream "JUST BLAZE", I would of thought either the Conductor Williams or Daringer did this joint.

The Album gets a 3.5 out of 5 for me. It's feature heavy and the beats are not as re-playable for me as I'd like. I believe Westside Gunn knows he's not a heavy weight bar smith, so he recruits the best MCS. And then he recruits the best PRODUCERS as well. He has a formula and it's working for him to be talked about in these Hip-Hop conversations. Shout out to Westside and the entire Griselda Camp for bringing the streets back.

My Grade For Album (Rate: 1 Lowest and 5 Highest)
Beats: 3.4
Lyrical Content: 4.0
Album Structure/Theme: 3.0

G Fam Black VS Ceverely Yours

G Fam Black VS Ceverely Yours Dear G Fam Black, Thank you once again for participating in this interview. I know you don’t do many press features, and this is a wonderful chance for your fans to learn a bit about you while still keeping some of that mystery. I truly appreciate it. Peace, G. I’m grateful for this opportunity! - G Fam Black Questions & Answers: 1. Are you originally from Brockton Massachusetts? And where are the best places to eat? Absolutely, I was born and raised in Brockton. There are plenty of great food spots here. For the best chicken, I’d recommend “Yas Chicken” and “Birdies Hot Chicken”, which are both fantastic. For breakfast, I have to mention “Alexander's Family Restaurant”. They’ve been around since I was a kid, and their omelets are incredible. For pizza, “Cape Cod Cafe Pizza” is the way to go—it's the best bar pizza in the world, a true South Shore Massachusetts specialty. A lot of towns near Brockton brag about having the best bar pizza, but th...
