Skyzoo - "Milestone" Album REVIEW

#BlackLivesMatter! Let's start with that. Let's actually keep it a conversation and strive for equality. But for now, we are going to concentrate on Black Men. When I was young, they were known as the bread winners. The backbone of the family. Now? Let's review with veteran MC Skyzoo below.

Review:

Do you remember when Gangstarr took a break and Guru went and did Jazzmatazz? I do and I really thought I was going to despise it, but Guru's voice over those jazzy instruments took my ears to other dimensions. And if you love those Jazzmatazz albums, your going to enjoy Skyzoo.

Skyzoo's last prior album, "The Blue Note" with the great Dumbo Station Italian band was incredible. One of the best rap/jazz albums to date. But, "Milestones" named after his son Miles, speaks volumes of how Father and Son need that bond. The project reflects on relationships with and without father situations. It gravitates to realistic and honest conversations that are needed now and forever.

Skyzoo started this project last year in August and asked heavy weight producer Illmind to continue that jazzy feel from his last project with the song titled "A Song For Fathers". A song that spare heads a positive vibe on fatherhood ahead of the nationally NOT recognized holiday. I've been a father for 21 years and I can recall maybe a card from my daughter. Maybe I'll send her this album. LOL!

"I wanted to make a theme song for fellow dads to celebrate on Father's Day as well as everyday that we may need to hear some encouragement," Skyzoo said in a recent press statement. "We've all grown up to music that celebrates motherhood, which has been beautiful and is always needed, but the songs celebrating fatherhood, although existing, have been few and far between."

Off the top of my head, I can only think of one song about fatherhood. And that was Ed O.G. & Da Bulldogs, "Be A Father To Your Child". The Roxbury, MA Group and later solo MC Ed O.G.(Legend) was schooling Black Men to be a father to there kids back in 1991. Let's skip this subject, because I'm going to start rapping about how Black people have been wrongfully treated with systematic racism. Mr. Zoo does a marvelous job for the both of us.

Skyzoo explains how this one shout out to father's day, turned into this project within a week. "Production wise I specifically went to !llmind, who's been a frequent collaborator of mine throughout my career, for two reasons: one, he's one of the greatest producers ever, and his specialty is bringing your idea to life larger than you'd imagined, and two: if you know !llmind you know he makes music due to his dad having been a musician in his own right. His dad passed away awhile back and I know he's hugely influenced by his dad's legacy, so I knew he'd understand the importance of such a record."

Last year Pete Rock and Sky put out the album, people are claiming classic buzz around called, "Retropolitan". It was a LOVE LETTER to his city to wake up and smell the gentrification coming to there borough's. So, Skyzoo has always been in the times and fighting the good fight through music. And this EP is no exception bringing back the heavy influence tracks starting with the first cut, "Memory Serves Me".

The rapper continued to speak on his incredible project origin below:

“The idea for this project came to me from noticing the landscape of how fathers are represented in hip hop. Outside of Will Smith’s classic “Just The Two Of Us” and a handful of others, the majority of the records in hip hop that speak on fatherhood have a negative connotation. I wanted to change that narrative, as it’s not the only one that exists. Myself, being a father, there are a ton of others like me who are engulfed in hip hop and are also 24 hour a day dads, who’s kids mean the world to them. I wanted to showcase that. I started this project in August of 2019 as one song and it grew into an entire project within a week and I’ve been sitting on this idea since the summer/fall, waiting for Father’s Day weekend to come around.”

What I haven't mentioned yet is that the entire album is the secondary soundtrack to the LEGENDARY movie, "Boyz n the Hood". From the album cover to the skits, they line up to giving homage to the movie and the LEGENDARY director John Singleton. And I just noticed, this movie came out in 1991 as well as Ed O.G. & Da Bulldogs album with the, "Be A Father To Your Child" cut. Was that a coincidence, Mr. Skyzoo?

Anyway, thank you for this great project. It's an EP, but I don't mind. If felt like just enough time for me to listen to over and over. I believe this album is so close to a #hiphopclassic. And this will definitely be spoken about at the end of the year for Album of the Year. So, I'm giving this EP 4.5 MICS as a rating. Thank you Skyzoo for this project. It's really helping me heal from the lack of fatherhood that I didn't have. I'm looking forward to listing to your past and future workloads.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you on my YouTube as a subscriber.

G Fam Black VS Ceverely Yours

G Fam Black VS Ceverely Yours Dear G Fam Black, Thank you once again for participating in this interview. I know you don’t do many press features, and this is a wonderful chance for your fans to learn a bit about you while still keeping some of that mystery. I truly appreciate it. Peace, G. I’m grateful for this opportunity! - G Fam Black Questions & Answers: 1. Are you originally from Brockton Massachusetts? And where are the best places to eat? Absolutely, I was born and raised in Brockton. There are plenty of great food spots here. For the best chicken, I’d recommend “Yas Chicken” and “Birdies Hot Chicken”, which are both fantastic. For breakfast, I have to mention “Alexander's Family Restaurant”. They’ve been around since I was a kid, and their omelets are incredible. For pizza, “Cape Cod Cafe Pizza” is the way to go—it's the best bar pizza in the world, a true South Shore Massachusetts specialty. A lot of towns near Brockton brag about having the best bar pizza, but th...
