Dee-1 - "Timeless" Album REVIEW

Gospel Hip-Hop isn't as popular as the good people of this world would like. To be honest, it's not POPULAR at all. Most Hip-Hop is more grimy and street themed. It's where rap was born. On the streets. Not to say that the RAP GENRE doesn't have room for lyricist, artist, hip-hop researcher and heavy hitting church tunes. This youngster mastered the formula and I'm hooked. Clear your mind and press play and let Dee-1 take you on a journey.

Review:

I was in a live YouTube Hip-Hop review on 5/1/20 night and it was going so good, we went into 5/2/20. After reviewing the two albums planned, one of the Host decided to introduce us to new music. He played Dee-1's song "Blue". The comments woke up and sparked scores from 8-10. Ten being a Classic or Hot song. I gave it a ten. And then the Host hits us with the info that the artist is a gospel rapper. Our mouths dropped.

I woke up thinking about that song Blue. I opened up Tidal and listened to the album. Then I listened to his 2019 album. Then I listened to his debut 2008 album. Next thing I know, I'm researching this artist. I'm writing this blog. I'm doing a YouTube video. It's on!

He's from New Orleans. I can hear it in his voice, that's not news. I continued to search. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM (Westside Gunn Voice) This artist has a collaboration with MURS coming out soon. And for some reason, the artist puts this out first. Dee-1 must be a chess player. Good move student of Hip-Hop.

Who is this this guy down with? Who is his crew? Features? Wayne? Master P? Juvenile?

Real name David Augustine Jr., this artist blessed the entire album with his lyrical greatness. This ex middle school teacher is equipped to hold down albums by himself or with others. I liked the 2019 "God & Girls" album too. So, go check out that and the rest of his past. He's here to stay.

The only feature on this album is a singer. I usually don't count singers unless they rap a couple of bars. Like how Nicki or Lauren do sometimes. Shout out to Kourtney Heart. Beautiful voice. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Actually, Kourtney has a new single out called "Vibrations". Released 05/01/2020.

Dee-1 sounds like if Lil Wayne was a Christian rapper. He has all of what New Orleans cadence is all about. You hear it all in his voice on most tracks. Other tracks, he sounds like he's a cross between Nas, Benny The Butcher and Che Noir.

Don't let this guy fool you. He hasn't always been innocent. If your really listening to his prayers over these fierce beats, your'll see he seems to know too much about the streets. But that mix of hood and gospel, is what makes this kid outstanding. I cannot wait 'til his next project.

And shout out all the producers on this project. I'm a fan of each of y'all now. I'll be providing FREE promotion as long as you keep coming with this HEAT. Y'all got me looking for my Bible and Biscuit (GUN) at the same time.

I'm classifying this album almost a classic. There was only one track that I wanted to skip. And that track is probably New Orleans favorite track. So, I know they are giving this album a #HipHopClassic. Dee-1 and the producers, thank you for this album. Just know, you developed many more fans today. I'm excited about your future.

G Fam Black VS Ceverely Yours

G Fam Black VS Ceverely Yours Dear G Fam Black, Thank you once again for participating in this interview. I know you don’t do many press features, and this is a wonderful chance for your fans to learn a bit about you while still keeping some of that mystery. I truly appreciate it. Peace, G. I’m grateful for this opportunity! - G Fam Black Questions & Answers: 1. Are you originally from Brockton Massachusetts? And where are the best places to eat? Absolutely, I was born and raised in Brockton. There are plenty of great food spots here. For the best chicken, I’d recommend “Yas Chicken” and “Birdies Hot Chicken”, which are both fantastic. For breakfast, I have to mention “Alexander's Family Restaurant”. They’ve been around since I was a kid, and their omelets are incredible. For pizza, “Cape Cod Cafe Pizza” is the way to go—it's the best bar pizza in the world, a true South Shore Massachusetts specialty. A lot of towns near Brockton brag about having the best bar pizza, but th...

P-Ro is 12 FOR 12

Dear P-Ro, Thank you once again for participating in this interview. The year of 2025 was definitely a great year for you. 12 Albums in 12 months is something to be proud of. Your consistency, drive and performance shows, if you work hard, the world is yours. Questions & Answers: 01 Releasing one album per month for a year is a monumental, almost athletic creative feat. What was the core philosophy or personal need that drove this marathon? Was it to break a habit, prove something, or simply because the music was overflowing? -It was actually a little bit of all those, and wanting to challenge myself with a goal and try to get better at being organized. The list of projects I made in December looks different than what I ended up doing. If I wasn't dedicated to monthly drops, I probably wouldn't have made 4-5 of the ones I did. It's great to have a team that's like-minded and can dive in with me when I need them and make great, fun music together and share it with th...

How To Support Your Local Rapper/Producer?

The Core Problem: The Illusion of Support vs. Real Financial Impact Many fans believe that streaming a song, watching a music video, or following an artist on social media is "support." While this is valuable for visibility, it provides almost no direct income, especially for artists without major label backing. The Streaming Chasm:  It's well-known that streaming payouts are meager. An artist might need  hundreds of thousands of streams  just to earn a modest monthly rent. For underground rappers without playlist placements or algorithmic favor, this is an insurmountable hurdle. The "Exposure" Fallacy:  Many shows, especially for opening acts or in competitive markets, are "pay-to-play" or offer minimal guarantees. Playing for "exposure" doesn't pay bills. So, if streaming and low-tier shows don't cut it, how  can  fans genuinely support rappers, especially underground ones? Let's break it down by impact. Tier 1: The Lifeblood ...
