Classic anything is hard to come by. And when it comes to music it's incredibly very difficult. Legendary Producer and Rapper DJ Quik can attest to this. Some may say he has more classics than DR. Dre. What do you believe? Let's GO!

Review:

There's NO rating anxiety when I review classics. We already know this is a 5 MIC album. What we don't know is why I believe so. This artist has been putting out quality music his entire life and for some reason hasn't been getting his flowers while he's alive. DJ Quik is one of the BEST producers in the WORLD and he's a great lyricist as well.

Born David Martin Blake on January 18, 1970, this West Coast rapper/producer is from the famous Compton, California. He affiliated with the Tree Top Piru Bloods back in his hey day and took the "C" out of Quick and there forms his famous name of "Quik". Taking the "C" out is critical based on it's affiliation with "Crip" gangs. And Crips do the same thing with the letter "B".

Started selling mixtapes in 1987, got a turntable for his 9th grad graduation and began DJing around Southern California. He signed to Profile Records in the summer of 1990 with a six figure deal. Back then that was unheard of. But Quik could rap, write and produce. They had a gold mind on there hands.

He dropped "Quik Is The Name" in 1991 with hits like, "Tonite", "Born and Raised in Compton" and my favorite, "Black Pussy". It reached 10th in the album charts. His other albums, including this one in REVIEW, never reached the success of "Quik Is The Name" even though other albums were much better with production and rhythm. I believe this was his first #hiphopclassic and "Quik Is The Name" was almost a classic. I also believe "Rhythm-Al-Ism" is a #hiphopclassic. I'll be reviewing that one as well.

DJ Quik has a P-Funk influence by artist like Roger Troutman (who even taught him how to use the talkbox, which became one of Quik's trademark sounds in 90's) and George Clinton. Quik produced for 2Pac, Janet Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Talib Kweli, Whitney Houston, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and many more. I'm still wondering why Quik and Dre haven't done some collaboration album yet. Let's put it in the air.

Mr. Quik was in his bag on this album though. His first two albums were DOPE, but this is when everything came together. His production elevated to new generations. New galaxies. And he's always been a lyricist that you had to bow down to. This was the time when West Coast rappers weren't really in top ten MC conversations. But when Quik came on the scene, that changed. He was on the list.

So if your a NEW fan to DJ Quik, I would recommend you start with his first record and work your way to his most recent works. DJ Quik is still active making HEAT records. He has one of the BEST catalogs and he isn't even done yet.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you on my YouTube as a subscriber.

G Fam Black VS Ceverely Yours

G Fam Black VS Ceverely Yours Dear G Fam Black, Thank you once again for participating in this interview. I know you don’t do many press features, and this is a wonderful chance for your fans to learn a bit about you while still keeping some of that mystery. I truly appreciate it. Peace, G. I’m grateful for this opportunity! - G Fam Black Questions & Answers: 1. Are you originally from Brockton Massachusetts? And where are the best places to eat? Absolutely, I was born and raised in Brockton. There are plenty of great food spots here. For the best chicken, I’d recommend “Yas Chicken” and “Birdies Hot Chicken”, which are both fantastic. For breakfast, I have to mention “Alexander's Family Restaurant”. They’ve been around since I was a kid, and their omelets are incredible. For pizza, “Cape Cod Cafe Pizza” is the way to go—it's the best bar pizza in the world, a true South Shore Massachusetts specialty. A lot of towns near Brockton brag about having the best bar pizza, but th...

P-Ro is 12 FOR 12

Dear P-Ro, Thank you once again for participating in this interview. The year of 2025 was definitely a great year for you. 12 Albums in 12 months is something to be proud of. Your consistency, drive and performance shows, if you work hard, the world is yours. Questions & Answers: 01 Releasing one album per month for a year is a monumental, almost athletic creative feat. What was the core philosophy or personal need that drove this marathon? Was it to break a habit, prove something, or simply because the music was overflowing? -It was actually a little bit of all those, and wanting to challenge myself with a goal and try to get better at being organized. The list of projects I made in December looks different than what I ended up doing. If I wasn't dedicated to monthly drops, I probably wouldn't have made 4-5 of the ones I did. It's great to have a team that's like-minded and can dive in with me when I need them and make great, fun music together and share it with th...

How To Support Your Local Rapper/Producer?

The Core Problem: The Illusion of Support vs. Real Financial Impact Many fans believe that streaming a song, watching a music video, or following an artist on social media is "support." While this is valuable for visibility, it provides almost no direct income, especially for artists without major label backing. The Streaming Chasm:  It's well-known that streaming payouts are meager. An artist might need  hundreds of thousands of streams  just to earn a modest monthly rent. For underground rappers without playlist placements or algorithmic favor, this is an insurmountable hurdle. The "Exposure" Fallacy:  Many shows, especially for opening acts or in competitive markets, are "pay-to-play" or offer minimal guarantees. Playing for "exposure" doesn't pay bills. So, if streaming and low-tier shows don't cut it, how  can  fans genuinely support rappers, especially underground ones? Let's break it down by impact. Tier 1: The Lifeblood ...
